Lauren McLane is recognized as a passionate Defender for her commitment to challenging the “science” in DUI cases and trying difficult cases. She began her career as a public defender at The Defender Association in Seattle, WA; while she was there, Lauren became a leader in DUI practice where she was frequently sought out for her advice by private practitioners and other public defenders. Over the course of her five years serving as a public defender, Lauren had the opportunity to defend clients in a wide range of cases, from misdemeanor to felony cases, including defending a murder charge at trial.
Lauren has distinguished herself as a trial lawyer who has tried a vast number of jury trials in the span of her career. She has earned recognition for her dedication to trying difficult DUI cases and setting the bar for other attorneys in this area of practice. In 2013, Lauren received the Washington Defender Association President’s Award for her work and commitment as a public defender in DUI defense in our state. Lauren has presented at a number of seminars where she taught other attorneys on topics related to DUI cases sponsored by the Washington Defender Association, the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Washington State Bar Association, and the Washington State Office of Public Defense, including in the areas of pretrial discovery, expert witnesses, voir dire, opening statements, pretrial preparation and motions, and trial practice.
Lauren regularly writes for the DUI News column for the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers on subjects related to defending persons accused of DUIs. Lauren was also a co-author for an article on the “Measurand” that was recently published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences. Lauren is an active member of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Washington Defender Association, and the National College for DUI Defense.
In May 2014, Lauren joined Padula & Associates, where she continues to advocate on behalf of persons charged with misdemeanor and felony crimes in our state. Lauren is originally from Virginia Beach, VA, and relocated to Seattle, WA, where she graduated magna cum laude and in the top 10% of her class at Seattle University School of Law in 2008.
